About This Video

Figma just dropped Figma AI at Config 2024, and I went hands-on with basically everything they announced. In this video I walk through the new “Actions” menu inside the refreshed UI3 (toolbar at the bottom), and show the three big buckets of AI help: generating designs from prompts, AI-powered search, and the everyday workflow helpers that actually save real time. I demo “Make a design” with prompt-based layouts (plus maps and auto image creation), then show how you can target a specific section of a page and prompt changes—like adding a contact form right before the footer. Then I get into the features I think people will use the most: Search Similar (including using a screenshot to find the original frame across files), auto content replacement that updates text based on context, built-in prompt image generation, and the native AI background remover (which honestly might kill a bunch of third-party plugins). I also cover auto translate, auto layer renaming (my personal favorite if it’s accurate), and auto prototyping—which is super impressive, but I’m skeptical because AI isn’t magic. The catch: Figma says they’re using OpenAI models “out of the box” right now, and they plan to improve by training on Figma data (with an optional content training policy). It’s free during beta until early 2025, and pricing after that is still unknown—so enjoy it while it’s rolling out.
