And once you’re using the right LinkedIn strategy, here’s how you can best target business owners on LinkedIn… Tip 1: Search for job titles in the LinkedIn search box Now this one is the easiest and most obvious one. All you need to do is type in relevant Job title’s in the LinkedIn search box. But if you do this , make sure you also click on “All filters” and make sure you select “2nd connections” so you can find people you’re not already connected to and then select any other relevant locations, industries, etc so you can filter down and find exactly the type of business owner you want. Tip 2: Use the keyword NOT If you keep seeing people in the search results who are not the type of people you want to target, then see what keywords they have in their profile and in the LinkedIn search box use the keyword “not” followed by the keyword you want to exclude. For example, if you’re targeting business owners but want to exclude startup business owners you could type in the search box “business owners NOT startup” Tip 3: Target ACTIVE people Interestingly most people who have a LinkedIn account do not login or use it regularly. So wouldn’t it make more sense to target only the active users? In Sales Navigator, you can actually see who are the most active people on LinkedIn. If given the choice between targeting active or inactive people, you might as well target the active ones as they are more likely to see and respond to your message or invitation. Tip 4: Filter by company size Chances are you won’t need to be contacting companies of all sizes. Instead you can filter by company size based on how many employees they have so you can more likely find exactly the type of clients you’re looking for. Tip 5: Don’t rely on InMail It’s not that Inmail doesn’t work, but if that’s all you’re doing to reach out to people, you’re going to run out of InMails very soon. Instead, it’s better to just connect to potential clients and then message them the normal way. That way you can reach out to a lot more people. And with LinkedIn it is sometimes a bit of numbers game. The more people you can reach out to, the more clients you’re likely to win. Which also brings me nicely on to tip 6…. Tip 6: Optimize your LinkedIn profile BEFORE reaching out to people If you’re using your linkedin account to reach out to business owners, you want to make sure your own LinkedIn profile looks appealing to the people you’re connecting to. As a minimum, make sure you have a profile picture, headline, cover image and summary page all filled out. If you don’t, people will be more likely to ignore your request on LinkedIn. Tip 6: Automate your LinkedIn outreach You could theoretically reach out to people on LinkedIn manually, but it’s going to be a grueling, time consuming and tiresome process. Instead, you can use LinkedIn Automation tools to help save you time. I’ll include a link in the description to a video where I go through the best LinkedIn Automation tools. And on that note, it also brings me onto my final tip… Tip 7: Use LinkedIn Safely A lot of people think that if you use automation tools you can get your LinkedIn account banned. But it’s not actually the automation tools that can get you in trouble with LinkedIn, it’s HOW you use LinkedIn. For example, even if you don’t use any automation tools, and you do everything manually, you could still get your LinkedIn account restricted. So it’s important you use LinkedIn in a safe way and avoid being spammy or doing things that other users won’t like or may complain about. These are some of my best tips when it comes to reaching out to business owners on LinkedIn.
