Sugarcane may not be the cause of enslaved individuals being brought from Africa to the Caribbean. But it was definitely the reason why the population grew immensely. I find it fascinating that when we hear about slavery and the new world we only think of cotton and tobacco and of course when they arrived to the US. But it is SO much more than that.
