Rod Heyes and Paula Schilliger (Caruso St John architects) present the practice’s ambitious masterplan for Hospitalfield House in Arbroath, Scotland. Since 1900, the house has been a significant cultural site for Scottish artists, hosting residencies and education programmes. In 2015, Caruso St John were asked to design a masterplan for the site, renovating the historic artist studios and inserting new interventions, enabling the organisation to realise its vision as a publicly accessible cultural resource for the twenty-first century. A CENTURY OF THE ARTIST'S STUDIO This lecture forms part of a new series exploring the rich typology of the artist's studio and the challenges of delivering studio provision today. The series has been developed in partnership with the Whitechapel Gallery to coincide with their current exhibition ‘A Century of the Artist’s Studio 1920 – 2020’ which runs until 29 May 2022.
