I started selling on eBay back in 2005, and it’s one of those skills that’s been a constant safety net for me through every season of self-employment. In this video I explain why I’m going back to eBay now: my TikTok Shop income has been down badly across the board, and my Amazon book sales have been down over the past year too. When you’re self-employed, you don’t get to just “wait it out” when an algorithm changes—you have to add income streams and keep it moving. Do I want to get back into reselling? Honestly, no. It’s physically demanding, it can tie up cash if you’re sourcing inventory, and I’m not trying to grind like that at this age. But I’m grateful I know how to sell on eBay, because it’s a real life skill—whether you’re flipping items from your own house or reselling for profit. For now, I’m not even planning to source; I have a ton of TikTok Shop sample products I’m done promoting (limited edition, no longer available, etc.) that are small and easy to ship, and I can likely make more on eBay than doing a 50/50 consignment split. The plan is simple: rebuild the safety nets—two TikTok Shops, Amazon KDP, YouTube, and now eBay—because bills (and vet visits) don’t care what the algorithm is doing.
