Using language that’s accessible and inviting to anyone, Omari Akil of Colorway Game Labs has successfully been able to highlight aspects of Black culture through board games. A graphic designer and creative by trade, Omari branched into the world of tabletop design when he and his brother realized that there weren’t many games made with storylines featuring people that looked like them. Through capitalizing on board game events and conferences, he and his brother were able to get market feedback directly from their target audience in real-time for their first game, Rap Godz. This helped them quickly implement changes and make reiterations in their games to bring them to market faster.
