Slums... certainly a delicate subject to talk about, are often taboo in pop culture and are spoken about frequently in a negative context. Let me first say that in my experience here I found the people to be the friendliest, most heart warming and welcoming people I've ever met. Dharavi was recently hit by the world wide pandemic pretty hard, which is why I though this would be a good time to introduce you to this area of the world. Slums are defined as "a heavily populated urban area characterized by substandard housing and squalor". Yes conditions are rough, the area faces daunting challenges, and many look down upon places like this. But here's the reality, yes they do exist, they are difficult places to live but millions of people around the world are housed in such places like this, many don't have a choice and I think it's important for us to understand what exactly it's like inside places like this, learn how people are surviving, see it with our own eyes as it helps educate, inspire and our hopes is that it will make law makers, politicians, individuals aspire to create change and help create better living conditions for people and others in the future that have difficult economic situations. Join me in an educational and humble tour of the slum made famous by the movie Slum Dog Millionare , that is located within Mumbai India.
