About This Video

In this video I’m basically saying what everyone’s thinking: the old barcode is cooked, and you can replace it (and upgrade it) in like 30 seconds. I start with the dumb ways people use QR codes—restaurant menus across the room, random billboard QR codes—and then I explain why QR codes aren’t the problem. They’re real-life links, and when you use them correctly, they beat forcing people to type URLs or Google you and maybe land on a competitor. Then I get into the real business use case: GS1-compliant QR codes that combine a QR code and a barcode in one “Q barcode.” It’s structured data, it can carry way more info than a 1D barcode from 1949, and you can even change the destination link later (which is immediate cost savings vs reprinting packaging). I talk about GS1’s “Sunrise 2027” push where Walmart, Amazon, and supply chains are moving toward 2D codes, so this isn’t optional anymore. Finally, I demo QR Tiger: generate a GS1 QR, optionally show the barcode/serial, customize design, download in SVG/PDF/EPS, and use features like analytics, URL edits, expiration, scan limits, passwords, and notifications to futureproof packaging.
