Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio: A Cautionary Tale

It’s time to test drive and review the 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio! Welcome to Crash Course. The Giulia Quadrifoglio is the ultimate sports car disguised as a sedan. This Quad has a 2.9-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 engine that makes 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, and it’s derived from Ferrari’s F154 V8. In America, the power goes through an eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels (no AWD on Quadrifoglios), because we never got Alfa’s originally promised manual transmission. A new Alfa Romeo Giulia starts at $41,690 for the 2024 model year, and it has a bunch of trims: the base Sprint, Ti, Veloce, Competizione, Quadrifoglio, Quadrifoglio Carbon, and Quadrifoglio Supersport. I’ve driven the Quad and the Veloce, the latter of which has a 2.0T, 4-cylinder engine that makes about 280 horsepower. The lower trims are for touring, while the Quad is for a ripping good time at any speed. The Quad’s engine and exhaust sound amazing, its 500 HP is a dream, and its carbon bucket race seats are incredible. It’s the kind of car that makes you truly feel emotion, even when you do auto reviews week-in and week-out. But you might be wondering: Why are used Alfa Romeo Giulias so cheap? What’s ownership like? That’s where people get a little cold on the Giulia. When it debuted 10 years ago, drivers and reviewers had a lot of reliability issues — giving the new Giulia a bad reputation. That POV has led people to associate the Giulia with its reliability instead of the fact that the Quadrifoglio is one of the best cars on the market, and it’s sad. The current Giulia’s been able to truck along for a decade despite its reputation, and this generation is coming to an end in America.
