2025 Chevy Traverse: 3 Rows Without the Stigma

Let’s test drive and review the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse High Country FWD! The Chevrolet Traverse is big. It’s boxy. It’s borderline stately. From the front, you could almost mistake it for a truck. Instead, it’s a cushy SUV with second-row captain’s chairs, because we live in an era where people buy 3-row SUVs instead of minivans (which are the cool, practical choice, according to me, a car nerd). But the Traverse is cool, especially if you like the idea of a 3-row, front-wheel-drive truck. The production Chevy Traverse has been around since 2008, and the first generation was around for a decade. It had a round shape and looked kind of like the Malibu of that era. The second-generation Traverse debuted for 2018 with a more rectangular body. MotorTrend gave the car a bunch of praise, saying it was comfortable, quiet, good-looking, and had ample cargo space and storage. The latest model Traverse is from the third generation, and it’s basically brand new. It debuted for 2024 with a standard turbocharged 4-cylinder engine on every trim, along with a column-mounted shifter and the ability to option the SUV with General Motors’ Super Cruise hands-free driving technology, which I absolutely love. It’s great for long distances and touring America’s highways without your hands on the wheel. For 2025, the Chevy Traverse starts at $42,000. That base trim is the LT, and it comes with cloth seats and no standard Super Cruise. Above that, we have the Z71 off-road trim, the High Country fancy trim, and the RS sporty trim. You can option most Traverses in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and my loaner was FWD. This Traverse has a turbocharged, 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine that makes 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque. That power goes through an 8-speed automatic transmission to the front wheels. My only real complaints about the car are that it isn’t super fast, and the engine sound is a little grunty for how nice the SUV is. Long-term, you might go for something quieter on the inside.
