As a youtube creator I have been on the lookout for a scope camera that would be able to record a first person perspective on my shooting while also being able to provide a simple solution for the left handed shooter and NOT break the bank. I have tried several that have utilized my cell phone and have had some luck with one particular unit that I will share at a later date, but it just wasn’t the all in one package I was looking for. Why an all in one package, simply put, my cell phone is utilized for a number of other tasks including chronograph work, video camera, and other tasks. We are going to take a look at some of my favorite features as well as provide 6 tricks that I have learned while using the Tactacam FTS that will help you to best footage out of your setup. All in one package at a reasonable price. If you look at other all in one package they can easily reach over $1,000 if the setup needs a separate action camera like a GoPro . This package comes in at less than half of some of the competitor prices. The FTS (Film Through Scope) setup is great for anyone that is a left handed shooter. I have had difficulty with other systems especially those that allow you to use your phone as the camera. The camera shoots in 4k and can handle slow motion footage just like the gopro at 240 frames per second which is equivalent to a GoPro Hero 7. Has an internal microphone which is great when trying to sync videos together. Throughout the remainder of the video you will notice some of the great footage I have been able to capture now that is warm out again and able to hit the range. Battery life is good too, lasting up to 2.5 hrs. The one knock on battery life is that if you are using Wifi to watch it on a seperate device, it will knock your battery life by about half. So if you plan on using wifi, then you will want to pickup a spare battery too. It comes with scope mounts for a variety of optics. Super easy to switch optics in the middle of a session without having to buy additional mounts and the mount keeps the camera solid as a rock. Wi-Fi setup to allow you to quickly change settings and to ensure your initial setup prior to your shooting session or hunt. Allows me enough room to use my side wheel, so I can utilize the camera during field target and benchrest matches as well as plinking, testing and hunting sessions. One touch record. There are two buttons on this camera and once you are familiar with the setup it is literally push and record. This means there is no fiddling around with menus in the middle of your hunt or when it comes time to film groups and competitions. The camera can also be used with other attachment mounts to record trail footage, mount it to your bow, crossbow, rifle without a scope or even use it as an action camera. The camera is also waterproof? Of course this makes it great for us outdoor guys! Okay time for those hints: SD - 128GB Ultra 3 Card Whenever you are not using your Tactacam pull the battery out just disconnect it from the camera. This will prevent the battery from discharging between uses. It uses power even when not on, because the IR sensor is looking for you to activate the camera by the remote control accessory that is available. Accessories: You know when you buy a product like this there will always be add ons. The two best accessories I have found for this unit are an extra battery and the battery charger. Although you can charge the battery while it is in the camera, I find the convenience of the external charger to be well worth it, especially if you plan on having a second battery. When you use your zoom feature on the scope, this does reduce the field of view. So if you are going to shoot something that goes BOOM (like a shaken can of soda or an ice cube) you will want to reduce the magnification so you can really see the action. To ensure everything on the video is in focus you will adjust the eyepiece (about a ¼ in out but every scope is different) and looking at the picture on your phone using the WiFi function you will check for clarity. You may need to fine tune this adjustment before locking everything down. And if all else fails, checkout the video library thay Tactacam has developed. It is awesome and will give you step by step instruction for every part of the setup. I will be putting a link in the description so you can check it out yourself. In future videos I hope to share some of the helpful ways a camera like this can be used to improve your shooting and to better understand why you were able to place a great shot vs those times you were left scratching your head because you missed. Until next time….. May your trigger pull stay smooth and your pellets fly straight and we will see again next time on the Airgun Advisor.
