Can I drive my van to the Arctic? (Disaster)

Well it's finally here. Van life on a new level. I'm driving my self built camper van from the UK to the arctic circle. It's been an idea I've had for years, but only in the last 6 months has the planning become a reality. Talking of planning, I've prepared the camper van but I haven't planned the route or any destinations. I'm just going to hit the road, drive north and see what happens. That's the spirit of adventure right? In this episode there is a huge disaster though. And it leaves the future of the trip in jeopardy. I genuinely don't know what to do at this point and I'm considering getting the boat home and starting the trip again next winter... Fingers crossed I can continue.
