Five Ten Trailcross Mid Pro Review Today were going to review the Five Ten (510) Mid Pro version of the Trailcross mtb bike shoe. These flat pedal shoes are designed for bike packing and for people that ride rugged trails that want an extra measure of protection. The upper is made of synthetic materials and mesh that keeps your feet cool and allows the shoe to dry out better after getting wet. The upper also has a neoprene ankle gaitor which provides some ankle compression and keeps debris out of the shoes. In addition to that, you have bonus ankle coverage with the D30 armor to protect your ankles from impacts. The sole uses five ten's Stealth Phantom rubber which is even stickier than the S1 rubber found on their other shoes. Apparently they use Phantom on their special ops shoes. Another difference is cutouts by the toe and heel. These are designed to give better traction when hiking The sole did well on steep hike-a-bikes where I didn't experience and slipping. Performance wise these were comfortable and true to size. The design leaves plenty of room around the ankle front and back which makes pedaling natural while side support was good. These are not the stiffest shoes out there. There is a good amount of flex. They are still more stiff than a skate shoe or a pair of sneakers. That's by design since these are intended for the bikepacker where walkability is an important factor. If you're looking for a grippy sole, These shoes have the stickiest soles I have seen yet on a pair of mountain biking shoes. That special ops rubber is pretty good. #mountainbiking #mtbshoes #fiveten
