Friends, welcome back to Arc Tutorials. In this AI masterclass series episode, I break down one of the most misunderstood settings in LLMs: temperature. Temperature is not “how smart” the model is — it’s how confident vs how creative it sounds. I explain it using my same digital intern analogy: low temperature means the intern is cautious and only says what it’s extremely sure about, while high temperature makes the intern bold, risky, and more likely to add its own flair (and yes, potentially hallucinate). Then I show this in a real engineering context from the kind of agentic AI codebases I build on this channel. For example, when I set temperature to something like 0.1, I’m telling the model to be precise and predictable — great for factual answers, coding help, and enterprise workflows where compliance matters. If I push temperature closer to 1, outputs become more creative and verbose, which can be useful for brainstorming but less reliable. The key takeaway: temperature is basically your creativity slider, and choosing it correctly helps you control tone, risk, and output consistency without changing what the model “knows.”
