In this super casual (and very late) live stream, I finally unboxed three absolute garbage-tier $20-ish netbooks I grabbed off eBay for an upcoming “crappy netbook shootout” video. The whole idea here isn’t that these are good deals—I actually don’t recommend anyone go out and buy $20 netbooks expecting a pleasant experience. I bought them because it’s fun to see just how bad these things can be, and then put them head-to-head with the same basic tests. The lineup is a Lenovo ThinkPad X120e ($19, no battery, but it did include a genuine Lenovo power supply), an Acer Aspire One (~$21), and an Asus Eee PC (~$21). The ThinkPad immediately surprised me: it’s super light, feels pretty well built, the screen looked perfect when I powered it on, and the included OEM charger honestly makes the price way more reasonable. The Acer felt like the classic cheap plastic netbook vibe, with some corner damage and a nasty bezel/palmrest that needs cleaning, and the battery was dead. Then there’s the Eee PC… which completely lived up to the legends: thick, tiny, ugly, and the keyboard keys are ridiculously small—so bad it’s genuinely going to be fun to try using in the shootout.
