Kobo is my go-to “Kindle, but not Amazon” recommendation. It’s similar to the Kindle experience, but it’s way easier to manage your ebooks outside the ecosystem—download, run through Adobe/Calibre, and you’re done. If you’re tired of Amazon making downloads harder, Kobo is the clean exit ramp.
